What to Expect When SoftNest Cleans Your Sofa

· SoftNest Fabric Care

Our Process

See how SoftNest prepares, inspects, cleans and dries your sofa, from protecting your floors to fabric testing, stain treatment and the final inspection.

A sofa-cleaning appointment involves more than a quick pass over the seats. At SoftNest Fabric Care, we prepare the space, assess the upholstery and clean the areas we can safely reach, including the places you rarely see. Here is what to expect when we visit your home in the Greater Toronto Area.

1. We protect your home and inspect the fabric

We arrive prepared for the appointment and protect the floors before setting up. Waterproof protection helps contain moisture, with soft padding underneath to reduce the risk of scratches.

Before choosing products or equipment, we inspect the sofa and test the upholstery as needed. The care label is useful, but it is only one part of the assessment. Fabric, colour stability, construction, existing damage and any previous cleaning attempts all help us choose an appropriate method.

2. We open up the sofa and remove dry soil

We remove cushions where possible and open up the sofa to reach the frame, edges and hidden areas. We vacuum thoroughly to remove dust, hair and loose debris before applying any cleaning solution. Where the fabric allows, a motorized turbo brush helps lift embedded dry soil; delicate materials receive gentler handling.

The areas we clean can include seats, armrests, sides, the back, spaces under the cushions and both sides of removable cushions. Access, upholstery construction and fabric suitability determine what can safely be cleaned.

3. We match the solution and agitation to your sofa

We carry more than 20 professional products for different fabrics and cleaning needs. We select a suitable solution rather than treating every sofa the same, then apply it evenly to the areas being cleaned.

Appropriate agitation helps loosen embedded dirt. A soft horsehair brush may be used to work the solution through the fibres when suitable. More delicate upholstery needs a gentler approach, and we adjust the products, moisture and handling accordingly.

4. We rinse thoroughly and treat remaining stains

For upholstery suited to hot-water extraction, we rinse the fabric and recover loosened soil, residue and cleaning solution. Fabrics that need another method are handled accordingly.

We check for remaining stains and treat them individually with appropriate stain-removal products. High-use areas such as seats and armrests may need an additional cleaning pass. We balance thorough soil removal with controlled moisture rather than repeatedly soaking the sofa.

Most suitable furniture and everyday marks can be cleaned. We can also assess old stains, colour changes or worn areas and try to improve the overall appearance. We explain what is realistic before starting; complete removal or restoration is not promised.

5. We assist drying and check the result

As suitable sections are cleaned, air movers help them dry while we continue working. Before finishing, we inspect the whole sofa again and touch up areas that need extra attention where it is safe to do so.

Many sofas take around six to eight hours to dry, but thick cushions, fabric, room temperature, humidity and airflow can change that estimate. We explain what to expect for your furniture and how to help it dry. Wait until the upholstery is fully dry before using it.

6. We explain any finishing treatment and aftercare

On suitable white or light-coloured upholstery, we may use a fabric-appropriate brightening treatment to address dullness. This is assessed for the individual sofa and is not part of every appointment.

Our goal is a thorough clean, including accessible hidden areas, with care suited to your furniture. For a quote, call, message us or use the optional form with the seat count and any concerns. Photos of the sofa or care label are optional; details of earlier products are helpful too.
